Boza is a fermented malt beverage from turkey and Eastern Europe. It is usually made from wheat and millet. It has slightly acidic, sweet flavor. Many Balkan countries have their own unique blend of flavor and cereal used in the production process.
Recent scientific studies have found that boza exhibits a number of nourishing qualities and is a great source for hydration during hot months.
Boza has low shelf life and it spoils quickly so some countries have opted in the past to avoid selling it during the Summer months. However with commercial refrigeration widely available this problem has been solved and it is available year round.
Boza in Bulgaria can be consumed as a refreshing beverage on its own or it can be served with dessert or breakfast.
